AI-Regulation Chair’s research fellows, Cornelia Kutterer and Dr. Theodoros Karathanasis, participate as plenary experts to the European Commission (EC) consultation on a Code of Practice (CoP) for providers of General-Purpose Artificial Intelligence (GPAI) models, which will end in April with the publication of the final version of the first EU GPAI CoP.

The Code of Practice, which is required by the Artificial Intelligence Act (AI Act), will detail the AI Act rules for providers of general-purpose AI models and general-purpose AI models with systemic risks. It will address thus critical areas such as transparency, copyright rules, risk identification and assessment, risk mitigation, and internal risk management.

On the basis of the contributions to the multi-stakeholder consultation which closed on 18 September, the Chairs and Vice-Chairs appointed by the AI Office will draft a Code of Practice for providers of GPAI models. Accordingly, a kick-off Plenary was held online on 30 September to inform participants of the drafting process, including the broad topics to be discussed by each Working Group. There will be a total of four rounds of drafting.
