We Are Hiring! Two Legal Researchers in AI Regulation

Theย Chair on the Legal and Regulatory Implications of Artificial Intelligenceย is recruitingย two legal researchersย to join our dynamic team within theย MIAI (Multidisciplinary Institute in Artificial Intelligence)ย at theย University Grenoble Alpes.




Who Are We?

At the forefront of current challenges, our Chair aims to find the right balance betweenย regulationย andย innovationย in artificial intelligence. We assess the relevance and effectiveness of existing tools (such as theย GDPR) and actively participate in the debate on developing new rules at both national and EU levels, including the implementation of theย EU AI Act. Additionally, we engage in international discussions on AI governance in collaboration with think tanks and international organizations. The AI-Regulation Chair is invited each year to present its research in all the most important legal events on AI, such as our recent panels organised inย CPDP 2024,ย IAPP AI Governance Global, or theย Privacy Symposium.ย 

Our Chair is actively involved in cutting-edge research on topics like the regulation of generative AI and facial recognition.

With theย MIAI project, selected underย France 2030ย with a budget of 70 million euros, we aim to create an international reference institute on generative, interactive, and embedded AI, focusing on human and environmental well-being.

Our offices are situated at INRIA (Montbonnot) in the heart of the French Alps. These two job opportunities are perfectly suited for researchers who wish to conduct groundbreaking research on some of the most important and topical issues in digital law and technology. You will work in a stimulating multidisciplinary scientific environment while enjoying a high quality of life in one of the most beautiful natural settings in Europe.




Position 1: Senior Research Fellow in Law (Ingรฉnieur de Recherche)

We are seeking a Senior Research Fellow with a PhD in Law to undertake a post-doctoral position focusing on AI Regulation.


Position 2: Junior Research Fellow in Law (Ingรฉnieur d’ร‰tudes)

We are seeking a Junior Researcher, preferably a graduate with a Master’s degree in International Law, European Law, Digital Law, or Intellectual Property Law.


Your Missions

  • Assist senior researchersย in their projects.
  • Conduct in-depth researchย in data protection and AI governance.


Your Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the writing ofย high-impact research articles.
  • Perform advancedย scientific and legal monitoring.
  • Participate in and organizeย international scientific events.
  • Manage the Chair’sย communication platformsย (website management, social media).
  • Participate in theย administrative managementย of the Chair.
  • Liaise with relevantย university departments.
  • Respond toย research grant proposalsย andย project calls.
  • Overseeย editorial projectsย under the supervision of the directors.


Desired Skills and Qualifications

  • Degree:ย PhD in Law, preferably specializing in International Law, European Law, Digital Law, or Intellectual Property Law.


  • Expertise in:
    • International Law
    • European Law
    • Human Rights
    • Technology Law
    • Artificial Intelligence


  • Language Skills:
    • Excellent proficiency in Englishย (written and spoken).
    • Good knowledge ofย Frenchย is a significant advantage.


  • Other Skills:
    • Proven ability inย research methodologyย andย academic publishing.
    • Strongย organizational skills,ย versatility, andย initiative.
    • Familiarity with theย research landscapeย in data and AI.
    • Proficiency withย IT tools,ย website management, andย social media.
    • Expertise inย communication strategiesย andย research dissemination.
