On January 15, Professor Theodore Christakis along with Dr Theodoros Karathanasis and Shadée Pinto presented to the regional department of the DGCCRF in Grenoble (Directorate-General for Competition, Consumer Affairs and Fraud Control) the EU AI Act, the challenges associated with its implementation, and the potential impact of the ‘Digital Omnibus on AI‘. This complemented an overview by Mr Philippe Wieczorek, director of the MIAI Cluster, on the current uses of AI and the associated risks.

This meeting provided an opportunity for insightful discussions with DGCCRF inspectors in the presence of the Director General, Ms. Sarah Lacoche, and the Departmental Director, Mr. Jean-Luc Delrieux.

As part of the French draft project to designate market surveillance authorities, the DGCCRF has been given a central role, as it has been designated both as a market surveillance authority (Art. 70 EU AI Act), with 14 cases of AI use to monitor, ranging from prohibited practices to monitoring compliance with transparency obligations, and as a single point of contact (Art. 70.2 EU AI Act).

The presentation also highlighted the work of the Chair and the dynamism and expertise of the MIAI Cluster, while exploring potential areas of collaboration with the DGCCRF.
