Deputy Director of the Chair Participates in the UN Cybercrime Convention Signing Ceremony in Hanoi
Hanoi, 25–26 October 2025
Last weekend, Prof. Karine Bannelier, the Deputy Director of our Chair took part in the official Signing Ceremony of the United Nations Convention against Cybercrime, held in Hanoi on 25–26 October 2025. The event marks a historic milestone — the first international anti-crime treaty adopted by the United Nations in two decades, and the first UN treaty to bear the name of a Vietnamese location.
Adopted by consensus by the UN General Assembly on 24 December 2024, the Convention represents a major diplomatic achievement and a renewed global commitment to addressing one of today’s most urgent challenges: cybercrime. Together with the Budapest Convention, this new instrument strengthens international cooperation in combating cyber threats while emphasizing the need to safeguard fundamental rights and freedoms.
The ceremony brought together high-level representatives and national delegations from across the world, featuring statements, roundtables, and policy discussions focused on the implementation of the Convention and its potential impact on global cybersecurity governance.
