On 28 November, 2023, Mozilla Foundation is organizing in-person panel, “Big Tech, big AI? Why keeping markets open matter”, on the state of competition in AI and the role of open systems. Against this backdrop policy and political discussions around the world on how to regulate development and deployment of AI, the role of open-source software and how to maintain a competitive market where new players, small businesses, non-profits, and others can access innovative tools has gained prominence in policy discussions.

The panel will consider options for policy intervention to ensure that markets will remain open and competitive while allowing AI to reach its full potential. Our Senior Research Fellow Cornelia Kutterer will discuss how safety considerations have become a major element in the discourse on open versus closed models.
