New Publication in The Conversation: Health Data Governance and Digital Sovereignty in Europe

Pankaj Raj, Research Engineer at the Chair, and Dr. Antoine Boutet have published a new article in The Conversation examining the opportunities and challenges associated with the European Health Data Space (EHDS).

The article explores how health data is becoming a strategic resource for medical research, public health, and artificial intelligence. As the EHDS moves toward implementation, it promises to facilitate the secure sharing and reuse of health data across Europe while supporting innovation and evidence-based policymaking.

Drawing on the French Health Data Hub experience, the authors highlight the governance challenges associated with large-scale health data infrastructures. Beyond privacy and cybersecurity, the debate increasingly concerns cloud dependency, digital sovereignty, democratic oversight, and public trust.

The article contributes to ongoing discussions on digital governance, data infrastructures, and the future of health data sharing in Europe.
